Things To Remember About Child Development

A child undergoes different changes during their developing years. These changes include physical differences, voice modulation, mental and emotional growth, etc. Constant transformations and developments take place in a child, specifically until their adolescents. Such developments in kids are known as milestones, and a child reaches different stages at different ages. Being a parent or guardian, it is crucial to keep track of these changes and ensure your child is developing at the appropriate pace.

If a child fails to reach these development requirements on time, it indicates that they suffer from some genetic or developmental disorders that need proper medical attention.

Here are the primary stages of child development that you must not forget.

Newborn

The newborn stage is the first two months of a child’s birth. During this stage of development, the newborn reacts to external stimuli, as they can move their head from one side to another, clearly see any close objects, hear the sound and turn toward them, and indicate their needs by crying.

Your newborn may be different from the others, but when it comes to the stages of development, they must indulge in these activities sooner or later.

Infant

An infant stage is considered from three months to one year. During 3 to 6 months of age, a baby can recognise faces, babble, control head movements etc. As soon as they reach the sixth month, they start sitting properly. Also, after six months, your child may respond to their names, try to speak different words and communicate with family.

As soon as the child starts reaching 12 months of age, they can easily crawl, stand on their feet, and imitate the gestures of others. These changes happen respectively between three months to twelve months.

Toddler

A child between the age of one and three is called a toddler. During this stage of child development, your baby can walk without support, climb stairs and run with small steps efficiently. Drawing with pencil crayons, saying hi or bye, waving, talking in jumbled words etc., could be counted as changing signs in the child.

This stage is important for a parent or guardian as they must inflict proper etiquette like eating habits, adequate sleeping time, watching TV, etc., in their kid.

Preschool

The age of 3 to 4 is quite delicate as your child would leave home for the first time and join a pre-school. This age is considered the building block, as they would learn how to behave in public areas.

Preschool kids develop many skills such as catching a ball, writing, learning new words, getting toilet training, drawing real-life things like flowers, mango, etc. and start learning about dressing themselves.

 School-age

It is the most prolonged period of child development, ageing between six and seventeen. These years mean your child is developing into an adult. There are physical, hormonal, mental and emotional changes, which include emotions like – jealousy, love, hate, courage etc.

If your child is lagging with basic development at any stage, that means you need to take proper care of your child and reach the paediatrician as soon as possible.  Atreum Speciality Hospital has child specialists that provide proper development screening and ensure your child a normal growth and development.
